The best aspect of being a teacher is the power to make change in someone's life. I suppose everyone has this ability, but I think teachers are in the frontline. I used to be an accountant. I still maintain my CPA status. But my jobs in the business world were just jobs to me. I did some "important" things, but mostly I helped other people make and account for their money. As a teacher, every single day is a chance for me to affect a child in a positive way.
Another great aspect of being a teacher is spending my day with children. Don't get me wrong --- some days this might not seem like the best. However, being with children gives me hope. My 8-10-year-old students still believe they can do anything. They still think they will be famous actors or professional sports players. They bounce back from hard times. They forgive and forget quickly. They give compliments freely. They laugh easily, even at my silly jokes. They make me think I can do anything --- which is exactly how I want to make them feel about themselves.
